ODU'S JOAN JACKSON APPOINTED TO ATE COMMISSION

Joan M. Jackson, assistant professor of educational leadership and researcher for Programs for Research and Evaluation of Public Schools in Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education, has been appointed by Paul Pease, president of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), to join the Commission for the Education of the Whole Child. The appointment is for three years.

"As a member of this commission, my contribution will be to look at the role the school leader plays in merging health, wellness and fitness into the PK-12 curriculum through school-community relationships."

ATE President Pease explained: "My overall vision is how can we promote the Education of the Whole Child as an organization, and of course my main focus is the health and wellness of children in our country and around the world. You will hear some of this in my presidential address at the brunch at our national conference in New Orleans this weekend. The major focus in that address is educating the whole child with the emphasis on health, wellness and fitness of children."
