Nasim Yousefi and Jafar Edrisi, an Iranian couple cycling the world to bring awareness of peace and environmental conservation, will plant a tree on the Old Dominion University campus during a stop at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20. The tree planting will be outside of Powhatan Apartments Complex 1, at the corner of Powhatan Avenue and 48th Street. The ceremony also kicks off Recycling Week on campus.
Yousefi and Edrisi are planting the tree as a symbol of peace during their world tour, which started in Iran in April 2007 and advances at an average of 70 miles per day. After crossing North America, the husband-and-wife team plan to continue on their journey through Japan, Korea, China, Nepal, India and Pakistan. They have been featured on CNN International, the BBC and elsewhere. More information about their 13,000-mile trip can be found at www.rmc4peace.com.
