ODU CANCER RESEARCH FEATURED IN HAMPTON ROADS MAGAZINE
An article titled "Cell Warfare" in the January 2008 issue of Hampton Roads Magazine explores the cancer fighting techniques being pioneered by researchers at Old Dominion University's Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics.
Karl H. Schoenbach, director of the Reidy Center and Batten Endowed Chair in Bioelectrics Engineering at ODU, explains in the article how the center's researchers have used nanosecond-range pulses of high field strength electricity to bring about remission of skin tumors in mice.
New means of delivering the pulses to internal tumors, via catheter electrodes or antenna-beams, also are noted.
Advances in bioelectrics made at the Reidy Center have been described as a significant step toward human cancer therapies that involve no drugs and produce no lasting side effects.
