HUMANITIES' HELLER QUOTED IN CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR STORY

Dana Heller, director of Old Dominion University's humanities program and professor in the English department whose areas of academic research include popular culture and media studies, is quoted in a story about the philanthropic house-gifting trend in the U.S., fueled in part by reality TV shows. The article appears in the Jan. 28 edition of the Christian Science Monitor.

Heller, author and editor of several books on the culture of makeover television, most recently "Reading Makeover Television: Realties Remodeled" comments in the article on this new trend in giving.

"We used to give people money toward college. Now, we give them a house," Heller said, further noting that "the depth of the need is often what sparks house-building projects."
