FREDA P. JACOCKS, OCCS SYSTEM ANALYST, DIES

Freda Patricia Jacocks, 60, a system support analyst in the Office of Computing and Communication Services at Old Dominion University, died Dec. 27, 2007.

A resident of Norfolk, Jacocks worked for more than 19 years at Old Dominion and played a key role in the initial installation of Local Area Networks (LANs). She was instrumental in supporting the growth of LANs to every department on campus, helped implement numerous desktop changes and supported five different PC operating systems from DOS to Windows XP. According to Rusty Waterfield, acting assistant vice president for computing services, Jacocks was seen reading manuals to maintain her technical knowledge even on her breaks. She most recently served as a TSP for the Admin and Finance area.

Survivors include her father, Milton Jacocks Sr.; a sister, Karen Jacocks Thompson (Andres); a brother, Milton L. Jacocks Jr. (Kim); a niece, Courtney Jacocks; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Atlanta Wyche.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at noon in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, by the Rev. Dr. Robert Murray. Graves Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
