RUSSIAN MUSIC/FOOD THEME FOR ODU MADRIGAL BANQUETS

The Old Dominion University music department invites the community to its annual Madrigal Banquets on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available until Nov. 28 by calling 757-683-5305.

The ODU Madrigal Singers and Collegium Musicum, directed by Lee Teply, will entertain with music by composers who were born or worked in Russia and Eastern Europe, among them Heinrich Isaac, Dmitri Bortniansky, Chopin and Tchaikovsky. Holiday carols, which will include the Ukrainian "Carol of the Bells", are a highlight of the evening.

For over 25 years, the Madrigal Banquet has delighted audiences every holiday season. This unique event is a perfect outing for those looking for a special evening of music combined with a wonderful meal and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

A full meal, which includes Chicken Gorky as the main course, is served in the candlelit and decorated atrium. Wine is available by the glass or carafe at an additional cost and with proper ID.

The ODU Madrigal Singers, comprised of 15-20 music majors and other university students, sing music from around the world and from all time periods. The ODU Collegium Musicum is a unique group that brings together students and community members to study and perform early music using a variety of instruments.

Ticket prices are $35 for individuals, $30 each for groups of 6 or more, $30 for ODU faculty and non-ODU students, and $20 for ODU students with college ID. Tickets must be purchased before Nov. 28 by calling 683-5305. For more information, call 683-4065.
