ODU THEATRE PRESENTS "THE BIRDS" NOV. 16-DEC. 1
The second show of the ODU Theatre season, directed by the theater program's newest faculty member, Jenifer Alonso, will be Aristophanes' "The Birds," translated by Peter Meineck. As of Friday, Nov. 16, the intimate Stables Theatre becomes home to a boisterous chorus of birds that help two vulgar old men escape their debt, avoid lawsuits, find mates, oust the gods and found Cloud Cuckooland - a raucous utopia that soon collapses into a zany dictatorship. Audiences will delight in the colorful, well-crafted costumes and masks.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16; Saturday, Nov. 17; Thursday, Nov. 29; Friday, Nov. 30; and Saturday, Dec. 1. Matinee performance will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. The 8 p.m. Nov. 17 performance is also TOGA night and the Dec. 1 evening show is Greek T-shirt night.
Tickets for ODU Theatre productions are $10 for students and $15 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Arts and Letters box office, located in the lobby of the University Theatre (Hampton Boulevard, between 46th and 47th streets), or by calling 683-5305.
