CCPO SEMINAR LOOKS AT HEALTH OF ESTUARIES

By monitoring communities of microbial organisms in estuarine waters, University of South Carolina faculty member James Pinckney is helping to explain how human practices and climate change are affecting the ecology of bays and rivers. Pinckney will talk about his research in Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography Fall 2007 Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19.

The presentation, titled "Physical and Biogeochemical Controls of Ecosystem Structure and Spatiotemporal Dynamics in Anthropogenically-impacted Estuaries," will be in Room 3200 of the Innovation Research Park @ ODU building. The public is invited to this free seminar. Refreshments will be served beginning at 3 p.m.

Pinckney, associate professor of marine science and biological sciences at South Carolina, will focus in his talk on research he has done in Galveston Bay in Texas and the Neuse River estuary of North Carolina.
