WORKSHOP WILL ADDRESS HOW TO RECOGNIZE SIGNS OF CHILD ABUSE

Old Dominion University's Omega Delta chapter of Chi Sigma Iota will host a professional workshop titled "Recognizing & Reporting Child Sexual Abuse."

The workshop will be from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the Cape Charles/Isle of Wight Room of Webb University Center.

Teresa M. Christensen, PhD, NCC, LPC, RPT-S, an ODU assistant professor of educational leadership and counseling and an expert in play therapy and counselor supervision, will facilitate the session.

This presentation will include information on how to identify and report suspected child abuse. An instructional video and PowerPoint presentation will be shown to help attendees acquire information and gain knowledge about their roles as mandated reporters. Case vignettes will also be used to facilitate discussion regarding specific scenarios that can occur in the school setting.

The workshop is free to Chi Sigma Iota/Omega Delta chapter members, $10 for students and $20 for professionals. Certificates for two continuing education hours will be provided.

Chi Sigma Iota is an international society of professional counselors and counselors-in-training that advances the counseling profession through leadership, research, advocacy and the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence.
