THE TROMBONES DE COSTA RICA PERFORM TONIGHT FOR DIEHN CONCERT SERIES

The Trombones de Costa Rica will give a master class at 12 noon and a Diehn Concert Series performance at 8 p.m Monday, Oct. 29, at Old Dominion University. The master class and performance will be held in Chandler Recital Hall, located in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the performance are available in advance or at the door. The master class is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Winner of the Costa Rican National Award of Music in 1997 and the city of Passau's Special Prize in Germany in 1999, Trombones De Costa Rica is one of the most innovative and virtuosic brass ensembles on the American continent. According to saxophone virtuoso Paquito D'Rivera, after witnessing a recording session of the ensemble, "I can assure that the Costa Rican Trombone Quartet is one of the most interesting brass ensembles I have heard in years."

The quartet has traveled extensively throughout the American continent, the Caribbean and Europe. In addition to ensemble recitals, it has performed as guest soloist ensemble with major ensembles such as the Costa Rican National Symphony, the United States Army Band, the Oregon State University Symphonic Band, the Carroll College Wind Ensemble, the University of Miami Wind Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, San Jos National Band and the University of Costa Rica Wind Ensemble.

The F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series is supported by a grant from the Diehn Fund of The Norfolk Foundation. Tickets for the performance are $15 for general admission and $10 for ODU students with valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the Arts and Letters box office in the lobby of University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets, or by calling 683-5305.
