OLD DOMINION NAMED "ONE OF AMERICA'S 100 BEST COLLEGE BUYS"

NORFOLK-Old Dominion University was named one of America's 100 Best College Buys, according to the annual list compiled by Institutional Research and Evaluation.

The Rome, Ga. based consultancy firm identifies colleges and universities that provide the highest quality education in relation to lower tuition costs. Factors evaluated in the survey include undergraduate grade point averages and SAT scores, tuition and housing.

"At Old Dominion University, students are taught by nationally recognized faculty in an innovative and engaging atmosphere. They have opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research and gain real-world experience through our award-winning internship program," noted John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement and admissions, who added that this high quality education is available at a competitive tuition rate.

"With a 16 percent increase in applications from students with distinction and a record-setting freshman class, students have clearly acknowledged the outstanding educational value of Old Dominion. This recognition as one of America's 100 Best College Buys just further confirms the university's place among the best institutions in the country."

Old Dominion was one of only five Virginia universities on the list of 100 colleges and universities. The other schools included James Madison, Virginia Tech, Mary Washington and Longwood.

In September of this year, the College Guide of Washington Monthly Magazine, which rates institutions based on their record for community service as well as research, ranked Old Dominion 120 of 242 major colleges and universities.
