ODU WOMEN'S CENTER OBSERVES RELATIONSHIP VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
The Old Dominion University Women's Center will observe Relationship Violence Awareness Month throughout October with a variety of programs, displays and activities. All are designed to foster greater understanding about relationship violence on campus, what can be done to prevent it and what resources are available to students, faculty and staff. For a list of programs and activities, call the Women's Center at 683-4109 or visit www.odu.edu/womenscenter.
Research indicates that in 21 percent of college dating relationships, one partner is being abused. In collaboration with the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, the Women's Center is hosting the Red Flag Campaign, the first statewide public awareness effort aimed at stopping dating violence on college campuses in Virginia.
The campaign features a series of six posters highlighting the "red flags" that might indicate the presence of violence in a dating relationship. The purpose of the campaign is to encourage students to speak up when they see red flags indicating the possibility of dating violence in their friends' relationships.
