JAZZ TRUMPETER JEREMY PELT PERFORMS FOR DIEHN CONCERT SERIES OCT. 15

Jazz trumpeter Jeremy Pelt will kick off Old Dominion University's F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series for 2007-08 when he gives a master class at 1 p.m. and performs with the John Toomey Trio at 8 p.m Monday, Oct. 15.

The master class and performance will be held in Chandler Recital Hall, located in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the performance are available in advance or at the door. The master class is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pelt has received rave reviews from critics around the world. His early work with the Mingus Big Band led to many long-lasting associations and great opportunities for growth. He has been fortunate enough to play with many of today and yesterday's jazz luminaries.

According to Jim Santella: "Born to play the Blues and raised on Jazz' most recent personality changes, Pelt brings fire and passion to his audience while tempering each stroke with the improvisational tools that have grown out of tradition. The trumpeter's wah-wah comments, his low moan caresses and his dizzying romps through bebop heaven gather up a hundred years of Jazz into one big picnic basket filled with seasonal delights."

The F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series is supported by a grant from the Diehn Fund of the Norfolk Foundation. Tickets for the performance are $15 for general admission and $10 for ODU students with valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the Arts and Letters Box Office in the lobby of the University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets, or by calling 683-5305.
