ENGINEERING ALUMNUS IS LEAD DESIGNER FOR MINNEAPOLIS BRIDGE DESIGN AFTER DISASTER
Tom Jenkins, Jr., a 1999 civil engineering graduate, is the lead designer for a new bridge in place of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis which collapsed Aug. 1.
Jenkins, who works in Florida for Figg Bridge Engineers, was student chapter president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) his senior year. He was also captain of the ODU Steel Bridge Team, leading the team to national competitions in successive years in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Dallas.
Jenkins was shown at the Oct. 8 unveiling of the new bridge design, which was profiled by ABC News.
