CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT EXPERT TO GIVE DARDEN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION FELLOWS AWARD LECTURE NOV. 9

Arthur J. Reynolds, renowned childhood development professor from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis-St. Paul, will give the 2007 Darden College of Education Fellows Award Lecture at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Mills Godwin Jr. Building auditorium at Old Dominion University.

Titled "Post-Early Childhood Education: Successful Youth and Adults," the lecture is part of the college's celebration of American Education Week.

Reynolds is currently the director of the Chicago Longitudinal Study, an extensive project that tracks the development of 1,500 children who attended early childhood programs in Chicago's inner city. The main focus of the study is the effects of the Child-Parent Center program, a school-based intervention project that spans from preschool to the early elementary school grades. Another major goal of this ongoing, 21-year study is to understand how early childhood experiences affect development into adulthood.

Reynolds' expertise in the early childhood field includes early educational interventions, early childhood development, evaluation research, prevention science, and school and family influences on development.

The lecture is free and open to the public; reservations are encouraged. For more information or to RSVP, call 683-3938.
