"EINSTEIN'S UNFINISHED SYMPHONY" TOPIC OF PHYSICS COLLOQUIUM OCT. 2

Marcia Bartusiak, the former Hampton Roads television reporter and Old Dominion University alumna who has become one of the country's leading science writers, will deliver the lecture "Einstein's Unfinished Symphony" for the ODU Physics Colloquium at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be in the second floor auditorium of the Oceanography and Physics Building on campus. The talk is about the ongoing attempt to detect gravity waves, the last experimental test of Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Bartusiak worked as a journalist in Hampton Roads in the early 1970s and earned a master's degree in physics from ODU in 1979. She has worked for science magazines and continues to write science-related articles for magazines, as well as for The New York Times and The Washington Post.

She is the award-winning author of the following books: "Thursday's Universe," "Through a Universe Darkly," "Einstein's Unfinished Symphony" and "Archives of the Universe." In 2006 she was awarded the Andrew W. Germant Award from the American Institute of Physics, which recognizes "significant contributions to the cultural, artistic or humanistic dimension of physics."

In 1994-95 she was a Knight Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is now a visiting professor with the graduate program in science writing at MIT. She and her mathematician husband, Stephen Lowe, live in Sudbury, Mass.
