ODU'S BETA ALPHA PSI CHAPTER AWARDED SUPERIOR STATUS

The Zeta Pi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration achieved Superior Status for the 2006-07 academic year.

Beta Alpha Psi is an international honors organization that enhances the university educational experience by providing interaction with finance, information systems, and accounting professionals; conducting technical and personal development programs through campus, regional and International meetings; and promoting and encouraging community service. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field, including promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance, and information systems.

To receive superior status, a chapter must participate in at least eight national or regional activities, six professional activities and one service activity. Among the activities completed by the Old Dominion chapter was serving as ambassadors at the Accounting Job Fair.

In addition to chapter activity requirements, members must also meet individual requirements to ensure chapter success. Members and pledges are required to participate in a minimum of 12 hours of professional activities, 12 hours of service activities and a combined total of 32 hours of professional and service activities.

Superior chapters receive a financial award contributed by the KPMG Foundation.

All chapters earning Superior Chapter status were recognized at the Beta Alpha Psi 2007 Annual Meeting held August 2-4 in Chicago. Tara Clarke-Brooks, chapter President-elect; Randall Spurrier, senior lecturer of accounting and chapter advisor; and Smruti (Ruthie) Desai, outgoing chapter president attended the conference and accepted the award.
