FLAGS LOWERED IN HONOR OF NORFOLK SOLIDER KILLED IN IRAQ

Gov. Tim Kaine ordered the flags of the United States and Virginia at state facilities to be lowered in honor of United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Two Jackie L. McFarlane, Jr., who died Aug. 14 in Iraq.

McFarlane died of injuries he sustained when a Chinook helicopter he and four other soldiers were in crashed in Taqaddum, Iraq.

Raised in Norfolk, McFarlane was a graduate of Lake Taylor High School. He was a part-time minister at Victory Christian Faith Center, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

He leaves behind his wife, Shanaye, and two children, Janee, 7, and Joshua, 2.
