CONTRALTO HELEN TINTES-SCHUERMANN TO PERFORM TONIGHT
Contralto Helen Tintes-Schuermann, accompanied by Julio Alexis Mu�oz, will perform a guest recital, Spanish Poetry in 20th Century Song, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Old Dominion University.
Sponsored by the ODU music department, the program will feature works by Fernando Obradors, Joaquin Rodrigo, Federico Mompou, Manuel de Falla, Eduardo Toldr� and Xavier Montsalvatge. Tintes-Schuermann and Mu�oz will also give a master class at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 4. Both the concert and master class are free and open to the public. They will be held in Chandler Recital Hall, located inside the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Tintes-Schuermann, assistant professor of voice at University of South Carolina, holds degrees form the University of Minnesota, the Escuela de Canto, Madrid and the Hochschule Mozarteum, Salzburg. Her doctor of music degree from Northwestern University. She is an experienced concert soloist and has sung works of Mozart, Haydn and Vivaldi at the Festival du Printemps in Monte Carlo, St. Stephens Cathedral in Vienna, the Salzburg Cathedral and the Festival of Religious Music in Cuenca, Spain.
Specializing in German and Spanish/Latin-American repertoire she has given numerous song recitals in Europe and the United States. Additionally, she has appeared in works of musical opera with Theatre an der Wien in Vienna, with Light Opera Works of Chicago and in Phillip Glass' Akanaten with Chicago Opera Theatre.
Mu�oz is one of the outstanding pianists of the Spanish new generation of chamber musicians. He studied at Lam Palmas and Madrid Royal Conservatories, Menuhin Music academy, Gstaad. and Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. He has performed throughout Europe, America, the Middle east and Japan as a soloist and in piano trios, He is especially devoted to voice repertoire.
