"STOP THE HATE WEEK" CONTINUES TUESDAY WITH STUDENT POSTER CONTEST

Old Dominion University's Office of Student Activities and Leadership and Multicultural Student Services will observe Stop the Hate Week, April 16-20, with a series of programs designed to promote awareness and tolerance in society.

The weeklong series will include a lecture by motivational speaker Brent Scarpo, a screening of the film "Babel" and student poster contest. Scarpo will explore issues of hatred and diversity in his talk, "Why Do You Hate Me?" It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the North Cafeteria of Webb University Center.

All events are free and open to the public. The complete schedule is as follows:

Monday, April 16
Screening of the film "Babel," starring Brad Pitt, Gael Garcia Bernal and Cate Blanchett, and dinner, 5 p.m., Hampton/Newport News Room, Webb University Center

Tuesday, April 17
Student poster contest. Noon, South Mall, Webb University Center

Wednesday, April 18
"Diversity and You," lecture featuring activities to promote both diversity and tolerance, 7:30 p.m., Virginia House Common Room

Thursday, April 19
"Why Do You Hate Me?", lecture by Brent Scarpo to explore issues of hatred and diversity and the ways in which these issues affect confidence and self-worth, 7 p.m., North Cafeteria, Webb University Center
