ODU ANNOUNCES FILMMAKER AWARD WINNERS

Three Old Dominion University students were presented with the inaugural Stephen E. Konikoff Student Filmmakers Award on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was among the final events in the weeklong ONFilm Festival, hosted by Old Dominion University and the city of Norfolk.

The award, which recognizes excellence in film, went to: Nathanael Allison, first place winner for the film "Soup"; Nicholas Ramsey, second place winner for the film "All Debts Paid"; and Kyle Middleton, third place winner for the film "Blink." Each winner received a cash award at the ceremony.

A special award for animated film was presented to Angela Winters for her film "Indigenous."

The new award is named in honor of Norfolk dentist Dr. Stephen E. Konikoff, a graduate of the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry.

An avid supporter of education and the arts, he is active in numerous charities and organizations in Hampton Roads. He has volunteered with Operation Smile since its inception in 1982, traveling the globe to repair childhood facial deformities.

"This award has provided a wonderful opportunity for Old Dominion to reward our many talented and creative students," said Konrad Winters, associate professor of theatre and communication arts.
