SCIENCES TO HOST NANOTECHNOLOGY LECTURE TONIGHT

Advanced materials made possible by nanotechnology will be the topic of a College of Sciences Distinguished Visitor Lecture on the Old Dominion University campus Wednesday, Feb. 7.

M. Gregory Forest, the Grant Dahlstrom Distinguished Professor in mathematics and biomedical engineering at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, will be the speaker.

The title of his lecture will be "Nano-materials: What's Really Different and What's Math Got to Do with It?" The lecture, which is free and open to
the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. in room 200 of the Oceanography and Physics Building.

Forest, who is co-director of the UNC Institute for Advanced Materials, Nanoscience and Technology, will explain why the design of materials at the nanometer scale is different from the design of traditional materials. He also will survey possible nano-materials applications in technology and medicine.
