MEN'S TENNIS ACHIEVES HIGHEST RANKING IN HISTORY
After starting the season with a 7-2 record, accumulating a six-game win streak to date, and earning an upset over then-No. 35 N.C. State, the Old Dominion University men's tennis team vaulted to No. 36 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings released Feb. 27. The ranking is the highest ever for the Monarchs men's tennis team.
The Monarchs have earned wins over Winthrop and Michigan State, while also blanking George Mason, University of Richmond, Howard and George Washington. Both losses have come at the hands of ranked foes, Wake Forest, currently No. 18 in the poll, and Duke, currently 12th in the poll.
The men's tennis team boasts two individual singles rankings, as well as a doubles ranking. Sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) is eighth in the nation with an 18-7 mark, while senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) is 33rd with a 20-7 record. Together the duo is ranked 45th in the country in doubles with a 16-5 overall mark.
The next singles and doubles rankings will be released March 6, while the next team ranking occurs March 13. The Old Dominion men's tennis team will return to action Wednesday when they take on third-ranked University of Virginia.
