RUNTE LETTER TO THE EDITOR IN THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT

A letter to the editor by Old Dominion University President Roseann Runte was featured in The Virginian-Pilot Jan. 5.

In it, Runte tells of traveling to see the Old Dominion men's basketball team play in North Carolina during a particularly difficult season a few years ago.

"Our student-athletes never gave up and they were not crushed. I was proud of them. They were what makes America strong. They were the dark horse that is capable of winning the race," she writes. "They were like all our students at the university. Each one of them has the potential to excel. Each one, with effort and education, can lead our nation to greater levels of achievement."
