BRODERICK OP-ED IN RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH

An opinion piece written by John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement and admissions and chief-of-staff to President Roseann Runte, was featured in The Richmond Times-Dispatch on New Year's day.

In it, Broderick notes the high number of college administrators across Virginia who enhance their job performance and understanding of today's students by teaching classes. He illustrates the importance of staying connected through teaching by focusing on a graduate class, School Community Relations and Politics, he taught during the fall semester in Old Dominion's Darden College of Education.

"What I learn from my students each and every semester is well worth the extra hours required to teach a graduate course," he writes. "Teaching, after all, allows me to interact with the very people my job depends on. It also reminds me how skillful faculty members must be in order to do their jobs well."
