ODU'S DIEHN COMPOSERS ROOM ACQUIRES NEW DIGITAL STATIONS
Two new musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) stations are now available in the Diehn Composers Room of the Old Dominion University Libraries, located in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The MIDI stations can be used by students and faculty for creating, notating and listening to their musical compositions. MIDI is an industry-standard electronic communications device that defines each musical note precisely and concisely, and allows electronic musical instruments and computers to exchange data. Rather than transmitting audio, the station simply transmits digital information about a musical performance.
Each MIDI station is equipped with Finale and Sibelius software and a version of Adobe Acrobat, which allows saving the work to disk. In addition, both software programs contain tutorials on specific activities such as working with scores, formatting and playback.
