DESSERT COMPETITION TO BE HELD TODAY
Those who are consumed by dessert, get tearful over the perfect tiramisu or define sweet success as the rapture over their after-dinner creation, be advised: the annual Old Dominion University Dessert Competition is right around the corner.
ODU amateur chefs, as well as those who just admire a good dessert, will gather at noon on Monday, June 12, in the Webb University's House of Blue for the judging of the competition. The event is open to faculty, staff, students and friends of the university.
Celebrity judge Joe Flanagan of WVEC-TV will place himself in chocolate's way, sacrificing any dietary restrictions in the pursuit of confection perfection. He will head a panel of nine other judges, all members of the ODU faculty and staff.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
 Family Secret  inventive family twists on traditional recipes;
 Chocolate Squared  all things chocolate;
 Desserts With Appeal  using any type of fruit;
 Southern Comfort representing the richest memories of the South; and
 A Beauty to Behold for those glamorous creations that look too good to eat. Architectural feats welcome.
Participants must register by June 5 by sending their name, category and name of the dessert to the President's Office or via e-mail to sfarrar@odu.edu.
Entries should be brought to the House of Blue at 11:45 a.m. on the day of the competition.
