PHI KAPPA PHI AWARDS ODU STUDENT GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has awarded a $5,000 fellowship to Old Dominion University senior Mary Cate Gordon.

Gordon, an English major from Philadelphia, maintained a 4.0 grade point average while at Old Dominion.

In addition, she played field hockey and started as goalie for the Lady Monarchs her senior year. "Going to the NCAA tournament this year made my time on campus even more wonderful," she said.

Gordon, who graduates on May 6, will attend law school in the fall.

During an internship last summer, Gordon worked for a local district attorney's office specializing in family violence and sexual assault cases. "It was difficult but eye-opening at the same time," she said. "It really made me want to study the law quality lawyers are needed in the public sector."

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for all academic disciplines. With chapters on 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines, the organization inducts approximately 30,000 members annually.

Each year, the honor society awards 60 $5,000 fellowships nationally.
