ODU TO CELEBRATE SPIRIT DAY TODAY
Old Dominion University will celebrate Spirit Day 2006, featuring a the sealing of the 75th anniversary time capsule and a celebration of the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs basketball teams, at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20 on Kaufman Mall.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, campus organizations and athletic teams will fill the time capsule, which will hold a selection of objects representative of Old Dominion's 75th year. After the ceremony, the capsule will be buried on the Williamsburg Lawn and will not be opened until the year 2030, during Old Dominion's centennial celebration.
The celebration is the last in a series of events throughout the year that have commemorated the university's 75th anniversary.
Old Dominion University was founded Sept. 12, 1930 as the Norfolk Division of The College of William and Mary. In 1962 it became an independent institution and in 1969 it achieved university status.
