INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS PUBLICATION TO RECOGNIZE ACHIEVEMENT AT ODU

Old Dominion University is one of eight schools nationally that will be honored in an Association of International Educators publication to be released in fall 2006. The report, Internationalizing the Campus, highlights innovative case studies and models in higher education. (Formerly known as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers, the association still goes by the acronym NAFSA.)

The university will be recognized for various campus initiatives that foster international education, including: recruitment and hiring of faculty with international backgrounds and global interests; curricular development; pervasive campus programming; recruitment of international students and visiting scholars; creative study abroad programming; and streamlined processes in the Office of International Programs.

"Old Dominion has built a global ethos on campus that is both pervasive and widely appreciated. No one who knows the university doubts that this is a globally engaged institution," said John D. Heyl, ODU's executive director of international programs.

The NAFSA annual report contributes to the national dialogue about the need for international education programs across the country. It is made possible through support from the Educational Information and Resources Branch of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

NAFSA boasts more than 9,000 members in 50 states and 78 countries. Most serve on college campuses as foreign student advisers, admissions officers, study abroad advisers and directors of international programs.
