STUDENTS TO RECEIVE FREE COPIES OF VIRGINIAN-PILOT NEWSPAPER

Starting Jan. 9, Old Dominion University students will be able to pick up free copies of The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.

Sponsored by the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, the program will deliver 1,000 papers each weekday at various campus locations, including most residence halls.

Mark Quan, a spokesman with the newspaper, said, "We believe this is a great opportunity for both Old Dominion students and The Virginian-Pilot, and we expect both student demand and satisfaction."

On Jan. 10 and 12, the newspaper will sponsor a paper airplane contest from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Webb University Center. When students show their ODU ID, they will be given a piece of the Pilot and asked to make a paper airplane. The student with the farthest toss will win two free airline tickets on AirTran Airways. Courtesy of the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, the tickets are good to travel anywhere AirTran flies.

Additional student ticket give-a-ways are scheduled for February and March.

With a half-million daily readers, The Pilot is the region's most popular media source, and it is the largest-circulation newspaper in Virginia. In addition to featuring local and national news, the paper showcases entertainment, music, regional activities, movie previews, technology trends and more.
