MACE AND CROWN COLUMNIST A WINNER

Mace and Crown contributor Roopa Swaminathan is being honored for her second place win in the Virginia Council for International Education (VaCIE's)
Governor's International Education Day essay contest.

Swaminathan, a graduate assistant in the Interdisciplinary Studies department, is in her first semester of the M.F.A. in creative writing program. Swaminatha, who comes to Old Dominion from India, won in the international student essay category for her piece, "If A Picture Paints 1000 Words: How I Would Photograph My International Experience?" Her's was chosen from among 33 entries for its "compelling representation of topic and theme."

The essay prize of $250 was donated by HTH Worldwide, an international insurance company and was presented Nov. 14 at the Governor's International Education Day luncheon at the College of William and Mary.

Swaminathan's essay and the other winners will be posted on the VaCIE website, and the winning essays will be sent to Governor Warner (and Governor-elect Kaine).
