INDIE SINGER EMBER SWIFT TO PERFORM AT ODU JAN. 29

The Old Dominion University Women's Center is bringing indie musician and songwriter Ember Swift to campus next month. Her concert will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Swift began writing and performing at age 9, and her music has been described as politically charged folk-jazz. Part of the underground music scene in Canada, Swift's songs are intertwined with her activism for greater social awareness. The singer-songwriter has traveled across Canada, the United States and Australia performing live shows for the past seven years.

Swift started an independent recording label, Few'll Ignite Sound, in 1997. The label was created to support other indie artists, serving as a resource for artists and musicians by providing workshops and other information.

Swift's stop at ODU is part of her tour to promote her upcoming CD, "Disarming." She is touring with her longtime band-mates, guitarist Lyndell Montgomery and drummer Adam Bowman.

Advance tickets can be purchased from the Women's Center at $5 for ODU students, $8 for ODU faculty and staff and $10 for the general public. All tickets at the door are $15.
