BAGRANOFF, ODU BUSINESS DEAN, AMONG TOP 25 HAMPTON ROADS BUSINESSWOMEN

The Hampton Roads business journal, Inside Business, has selected Nancy Bagranoff, dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at Old Dominion University, as one of the top 25 businesswomen in Hampton Roads.

She will be presented a Women in Business Achievement Award during a luncheon on Monday, Dec. 13, at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside Hotel.

Inside Business started the award last year to celebrate women in business. This year, the journal sought nominations from the public and from its own staff members for women who have succeeded in their profession, overcome adversity or obstacles, and have served as mentors or role models to other women. A panel of judges, including several women who were honored last year, selected the 25 honorees. A special insert featuring the winners will be included in the Dec. 13 issue of Inside Business.

Bagranoff was appointed dean of ODU's College of Business and Public Administration July 1, 2003. She was previously a professor of accountancy at Miami University of Ohio where she also served as director of the master of accountancy program from 1999 to 2002. With more than 20 years of academic experience, Bagranoff has also taught at American University, where she served as chair of the Department of Accounting, and George Mason, George Washington and Virginia Commonwealth universities.

Her teaching accomplishments have been recognized with the Outstanding Educator Award from the American University Cap and Gown Honor Society, an American University Award for Outstanding Teaching and a Kogod College of Business Administration Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Bagranoff received her bachelor's degree in marketing from Ohio State University, master's in accounting from Syracuse University and a doctorate in accounting and information systems from George Washington University.

Currently, Bagranoff serves as vice president of education for the American Accounting Association and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, Institute of Management Accountants, and Information Systems Audit and Control Association. She is co-founder of the Washington Accounting Research Society at George Washington University.
