WORLD FOOD DAY TELECONFERENCE IS OCT. 15

A teleconference, titled "The Politics of Hunger: What's at Stake?" will mark World Food Day on Friday, Oct. 15, and will be broadcast from noon to 3 p.m. to Room 219 of Old Dominion University's Gornto TELETECHNET Center.

The teleconference will address the question "Why does the modern world food system fail to feed adequately at least 800 million people?" The three-hour program will feature Werner Kiene, a noted expert on international food policy and activities who is the World Food Program's representative to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, as well as New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; Nobel Laureate Norman Borlaug; and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann Venaman.

A documentary film, "Food Reinventing the World" and a short film by the World Food Program will be aired in the second hour. The third hour will be an interactive question-and-answer period.

The 2004 teleconference will reach more than 1,000 sites worldwide.
