WASHINGTONPOST.NEWSWEEK TECHNOLOGY VP TO SPEAK AT ODU SERIES NOV. 16

Eric Schvimmer, vice president of technology for Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, will speak at Old Dominion University Tuesday, Nov. 16, for the College of Business and Publication Administration's Landmark Executive in Residence series. The talk is free and open to the public and will be held at 12:30 p.m. in room 1005 of Constant Hall. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis

A 1986 ODU graduate, Schvimmer has worked in the information technology field for 18 years. He has served as vice president of technology at Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive since December 1999 and is responsible for overseeing the evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of all technology resources. Schvimmer and his team have provided the technology infrastructure and solutions that helped launch many products and propelled the site to one of the top five news sites on the Internet. Additionally, Schvimmer is responsible for overseeing administrative functions of the company as well as product planning for the Technews.com site.

He joined The Washington Post in 1990 as a programmer and has served in various roles, including network engineer in the corporate information group, where he acted as internal consultant to other Washington Post properties, and deputy director of newsroom systems, where he was responsible for overseeing day-to-day management of all newsroom technology. Prior to joining The Post, Schvimmer worked as a member of the technical staff for Viar & Co. in Alexandria, Va. and as a programmer analyst with MCI in Arlington, Va.
