UNIVERSITY DANCE THEATRE CONCERTS ARE NOV. 11-13

The Old Dominion University dance program is proud to present its annual University Dance Theatre Fall Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11-12, and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the historic Wells Theatre, 110 E. Tazewell Street, Norfolk.

This concert will include a wide variety of dance styles with choreography by guest artists, ODU faculty, and selected students.

Beverly Cordova Duane, guest artist and adjunct dance faculty at Old Dominion University, contributes "Bailadora," a delightfully energetic romp for six women.

"Bailadora" was chosen to close a festival gala in Baltimore two years ago. It is a collaboration with composer Stephanie Heideman, from Vida, a women's a capello group. The music is about the moon's gravitational pull on the earth. Ms. Duane has recently had great success with the collaboration between Second Wind Dance Company, which she co-directs, and David Dorfman dancers. Old Dominion University Dance Theatre is proud to include her work in this performance.

Adjunct faculty member and guest artist Tami White will premiere "Over the Rainbow," a playful, carefree contemporary ballet performed to familiar Hawaiian music. The piece features five dancers performing intricate petite allegro in varying configurations with endless energy.

From ODU dance faculty Amanda Kinzer come two works: "Dreamstate," which premiered in 2002; and a new work entitled "Leave it Alone." Dreamstate is an intricate modern dance quartet to the music of Philip Glass with the Brazilian musical group Uakti. The driving, infectious music of The White Stripes accompanies her new work, which has elements of both modern and jazz, and is set on a group of twelve women and two men. This dance involves a range of movement, from casually pedestrian to confrontational.

Works by selected student choreographers from Old Dominion University in a range of styles will complete the concert.
