THEORETICAL PHYSICS PROFESSOR TO SPEAK AT NEXT SCIENCE DEAN'S LECTURE SERIES
Reiner Dreizler, Faculty Emeriti at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitat's Institut F�r Theoretische Physik in Frankfurt, Germany will speak as part of the College of Sciences Dean's Lecture Series at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 and Wednesday, Oct. 27.
On Tuesday, in the atrium of the Physics and Oceanography Building, he will discuss "Density Functional Theory: An Approach to the Quantum Many Body Problem that Works." On Wednesday, in room 102 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Building he will discuss "Numerical Simulations: From Tailor-made Materials to Protein Folding."
Refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m. on both dates.
Dreizler received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from University in Freiburg/Breisgau. He received his doctorate from the Australian National University in Canberra. He worked as a research associate and assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia from 1964-1966. He has been a professor of theoretical physics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universit�t in Frankfurt since 1972 and became a Faculty Emeriti October 2001. He currently published the book Theoretical Physics and is acting chair of the Centre of Scientific Computing of Frankfurt University.
