ODU FLU VACCINE SHIPMENTS CANCELED

Old Dominion University's Office of Student Health Services was notified that its shipment of influenza vaccine has been canceled this year, due to the decreased vaccine supply in the United States.

Officials said they do not know if they will be able to obtain a supply of vaccine from another source. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that only those people at risk get vaccinated. People considered at high risk of flu complications are:

- Children ages 6 to 23 months
- People over age 65
- People from ages 2 to 64 with chronic medical problems such as heart
disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney disease, and metabolic problems such
as diabetes and anemia
- Residents of nursing homes or other long-term care facilities
- Children ages 8 to 18 receiving long-term aspirin therapy
- Women who will be pregnant during flu season
- Health care workers with direct patient care.
