ODU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HOSTS WOMEN'S LUNCHEON NOV. 10 HONORING ROBERT STANTON
The Old Dominion University College of Business and Public Administration will host a women's luncheon Nov. 10 to honor well-known Hampton Roads real estate developer and ODU alumnus Robert M. Stanton for his championship and mentorship of women in business.
"Bob Stanton has been a leader in promoting diversity throughout his career," said Deborah Stearns, managing director of Advantis Real Estate Services.
"Bob admires everyone and talks about their great qualities in the most inspiring manner. Add to this fact, that without regard to background, position, race, or gender -- he seems to always be in the business of bringing talented people together," said Elizabeth Rountree, founder, Graydon, L.L.C., a Legacy Architecture Company.
"The lunch on November 10 is a wonderful opportunity to recognize his substantial contribution to our community, and we could think of no better way than to support the Robert M. Stanton Chair for Real Estate and Economic Development," continued Stearns.
Proceeds from the luncheon and gift contributions will be donated to the Robert M. Stanton Chaired Professorship in Real Estate and Economic Development at Old Dominion. Stanton's recent planned gift of $1.5 million kicked off the campaign to create a $4.5 million endowment for the chair, which will be jointly housed in ODU's Department of Finance and Center for Real Estate and Economic Development (CREED).
Tickets for the noon luncheon in the Big Blue Room of the Ted Constant Convocation Center are $100. Gift contributions begin at $1,000.
The $4.5 million endowment will provide funding for both the chair and for CREED, which provides information and resources for the Hampton Roads real estate and economic development communities in their quest to improve the regional economy through job creation and investment. The college offers a bachelor's degree in finance with a real estate track. The funds will also support increasing enrollment in the real estate major through curricular changes, scholarships and internships.
Stanton was a founding member of ODU's Real Estate Foundation board when it formed in 1994 and served as its first chair until 2003. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Old Dominion in 1961 and began his real estate career at Goodman Segar Hogan Inc. in 1966, rising through the ranks to become president in 1975. He retired from GSH and organized Stanton Partners in 1993, specializing in commercial real estate investments. He has been involved with some of the region's most significant developments, including Lynnhaven Mall, Greenbrier Mall and a number of neighborhood shopping centers. He also led the development of the World Trade Center, Riverside Corporate Center and, most recently, 150 Main.
