KIMBROUGH NAMED PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA H.B.C.

Walter M. Kimbrough, vice president for student affairs at Albany State University in Albany, Ga., and former director of student activities and leadership at Old Dominion University, has been named president of Philander Smith College, Georgia's oldest historically black college.

Kimbrough will handle Philander Smith's fund-raising and expansion campaigns. An authority on black fraternities, Kimbrough holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta, a master of science from Miami University in Ohio and a bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Georgia in Athens.

He has also held an administrative position in student affairs at Georgia State. Kimbrough follows Trudie Kibbe Reed, the former president who left Philander Smith in August to take the presidency at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Kimbrough has written a book examining the culture of historically black fraternities and is known on the lecture circuit for his presentations on the subject. He's appeared at more than 100 universities and 90 conferences.
