DOCUMENTARIAN AT ODU OCT. 28

The Public Broadcasting Service and award-winning filmmaker Aaron Mathews present a screening of Mathews' film "A Panther in Africa" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Powhatan Community Room.

The tumultuous period known as the '60s continues to cast a long shadow across the contemporary American experience. Few, if any, of the seminal conflicts that drove the era - civil rights, war and peace, racism, women's liberation - have been fully resolved today. Nor have all the key players in that national drama been tried, pardoned, punished, vindicated, or even allowed to come home. "A Panther in Africa" explores the legacy of the 1960s through the eyes of Pete O'Neal, a former Black Panther and American exile living in Tanzania for more than thirty years.

The showing is sponsored by The Men's Center Without Walls -- a division of Counseling Services -- as well as Minds About Progress and the Black Student Alliance.
