AARP TO HOLD SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT CANDIDATE FORUM AT ODU OCT. 20

The Virginia chapter of AARP will hold a candidate forum for Virginia's Second Congressional District with Democratic candidate David Ashe and Republican candidate Thelma Drake from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Old Dominion University's Ted Constant Convocation Center. The event is free and open to the public.

"AARP Virginia considers this forum an important part of our efforts to help voters learn more about the views of candidates. We look forward to having both candidates participate in the forum and hope they both will take this opportunity to share their positions on the issues before voters they hope to represent," said AARP Virginia State Director Bill Kallio.

At the forum, candidates will be asked their views on a variety of issues including those of particular interest to older Americans and their families. John Miller, chief development officer of WHRO will serve as moderator. AARP Virginia President Ruth Nelson and ODU President Roseann Runte will offer remarks.

"There are more than 66,000 AARP members in the district and we are extremely happy to provide this opportunity for them to address the issues affecting those 50+ and their families throughout the Second Congressional District," Nelson said in announcing the forum. More than 250 members of the general public and news media are expected to attend.
