ODU LITERARY FESTIVAL OCT. 4-8
"Creative Migrations: New Writing from the Global Diaspora," the 27th Old Dominion University Literary Festival, featuring a variety of readings, dialogues, workshops, and conversations by nationally known authors with students and residents of Hampton Roads, will be Monday through Friday, Oct. 4-8.
The festival will be headlined by a President's Lecture Series presentation by author and essayist Richard Rodriguez, titled "Brown: The Last Discovery of America," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in the North/Center cafeterias in Webb University Center, 49th Street and Bluestone Avenue. The festival kicks off with a joint reading by authors Mireille Desjarlais-Heynneman and Ron Heynneman at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in the Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center, with the special participation of ODU President Roseann Runte.
Chilean poet/artist/filmmaker Cecilia Vicuna and prose/fiction writer Virgil Suarez will lead a creative writing workshop with youth participants from area schools that day at 1:30 p.m. Suarez will conduct a reading at 5 p.m. in Chandler Hall, followed by a reception and book signings at 6 p.m. Vicuna will conduct a reading there at 7 p.m.
