FIELD HOCKEY RANKED SEVENTH
The first STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday morning with the Old Dominion field hockey team ranked seventh with a 3-1 overall record through the first three weeks of the season.
Undefeated teams take the first three spots in the poll with Michigan State (7-0) at number one, followed by Maryland (6-0) and North Carolina (6-0), who the Lady Monarchs will face on Saturday, rounding out the top three.
In all, seven of the eight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams are featured in the poll with three ranked in the Top 20. Delaware (3-2) appears at No. 14, while Hofstra (5-2) is ranked at No. 18. William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth, Drexel, and James Madison all received votes in the first poll of the year.
Old Dominion finishes out the last leg of its season-opening six-game road trip this coming weekend. The Lady Monarchs take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 18, in one of the most storied rivalries in collegiate field hockey. Old Dominion then travels to Durham, N.C., to take on the 2003 national runner-ups in Duke on Sunday, Sept. 19. Both the Tar Heels and Blue Devils will make appearances in Norfolk later in the season.
