VAN DER VAART IN FIELD HOCKEY GOLD MEDAL GAME

The Netherlands defeated Argentina, 4-2, in overtime Tuesday in a matchup of former Old Dominion University field hockey All-Americans at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.

Neither Macha van der Vaart of The Netherlands nor Marina DiGiacomo of Argentina attempted a shot in the game.

The Netherlands advances to Thursday's gold medal match against Germany. Argentina will play China in Thursday's bronze medal match.

In sailing, former ODU All-American Charlie Ogletree along with John Lovell held on to their top spot in the Tornado race for the U.S. Olympic squad despite two ninth-place finishes (one of which they count as a throwout). The team of Roman Hagara and Hans Steinacher of Austria are one point behind in second place.

The duo has five races left in the 11-race event. The have one first-, two second-, a sixth- and two ninth-place finishes.
