EDGERTON TO MODERATE 'FAHRENHEIT' PANEL

Gary R. Edgerton, chair of Old Dominion University's communication and theatre arts department, will moderate a panel on the film "Fahrenheit 9/11" at the conference, "War in Film, Television, and History," Nov. 11-14 in Dallas.

Edgerton has published five books and more than 50 essays on a variety of film, television, and culture topics in a wide assortment of books and scholarly journals. He is currently co-editor of The Journal of Popular Film & Television (with Michael T. Marsden), topical editor for popular and critical studies for Communication Booknotes Quarterly, and is an editorial board member of seven other scholarly journals.

The town meeting, titled "'Fahrenheit 9/11' and the (Culture) War at Home," will be a three-hour session Saturday, Nov. 13, on the significance and impact of the recent Michael Moore film as a documentary, a historical film and a popular phenomenon.

The conference is sponsored by "Film & History" -- an interdisciplinary journal of film and television studies -- in conjunction with The Film and History League, The Literature/Film Quarterly, and The Literature/Film Association.

A cross-section of viewpoints on the film will be presented by the more than 300 speakers expected at the session. More information on the conference is available online at www.filmandhistory.org.
