MEMORIAL SERVICE FRIDAY FOR STABLER

George Miller Stabler of Virginia Beach, professor emeritus of sociology and anthropology at Old Dominion University, died July 3 at the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community.

Stabler came to Tidewater in 1971 as chairman of his department, a position he held for six years before going back to full-time teaching. He spent 22 years at ODU.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanne Johnson Stabler, four children, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, at the Virginia Beach Friends Meeting on Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A reception will follow at the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community Club House, 1200 Atlantic Shores Blvd., Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Friends Service Committee at 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, Pa., 19102, or a charity of your choice.
