BARHAM WINS CREATIVE TEACHING AWARD

Phyliss Barham senior lecturer and chief academic advisor in the College of Nursing at Old Dominion University, recently received an Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.

Barham, a native of Norfolk, was nominated for the award based on her creative ways to teach, learn and use technology. It was presented at the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning held March 31 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Barham received her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Old Dominion University. She has been teaching at Old Dominion for 23 years and is the chief academic advisor to all new nursing students. Barham has also been involved in the development of Old Dominion University's virtual hospital, which is an online hospital designed to stimulate the challenges and duties of the nursing profession.

Prior to joining ODU, she was a nurse at Norfolk General Hospital and a part-time clinical instructor at Central School of Practical Nursing in Norfolk.
