HISTORY STUDENTS WIN AWARDS

Several Old Dominion University students collected awards as part of the annual Virginia regional conference of the Phi Alpha Theta history honor society held at ODU April 3.

Students from ten colleges and universities participated. Winners included:

Undergraduate United States -

First Place (tie)
Reverie Rowlett (Hampton), Old Dominion University, "A Conflict of Will: John Marshall, Andrew Jackson and the Cherokee"
and Karla Yarus (Norfolk), Old Dominion University, "President Washington's Character: How One Man Shaped a Nation";

Graduate European -

Honorable Mention
Helene Tisdale (Atlanta, Ga.), Old Dominion University, "From Octavian to the Res Gestae: The Worship of Augustus";

Second Place
Homer Babbitt (Chesapeake), Old Dominion University, "If It Looks Like a Rock and Feels Like a Rock, the British Might Disagree: The United Kingdom's Claim to Rockall";

First Place
Scott Moore (Virginia Beach), Old Dominion University, "The Foreign Office and Nazi Foreign Policy";

Graduate United States -

Honorable Mention
Brooke Holtslander (Portsmouth), Old Dominion University, "An American Disgrace: Vietnam Atrocities and the American Conscience."
